Texas, and the Metroplex in particular, is a severe and harsh driving environment. We have a rare combination of extreme heat for long periods of time along with below freezing temperatures which together create a wide operating temperature range for our vehicles. This weather phenomenon in conjunction with our mobile society and intense driving conditions on highways as well as stop-and-go on major commuting thoroughfares make the harsh environment that much more difficult on your vehicle's fluids and filters.

Over the years we've seen a lot of engines absolutely burnt up. Thousands of dollars of repairs and replacements incurred because routine maintenance was overlooked, deferred, or ignored.
The manufacturer of the vehicle publishes an owner's manual and this is the first place to look for recommended oil and filter change schedules. The manufacturer often lists "normal" driving conditions and so we recommend adjusting those guidelines significantly for the harsh and severe driving conditions we see here in DFW's Mid-Cities. The old rule of thumb of 3,000 miles has been extended with new technology, and while manufacturers may recommend 5,000 or even up to 7,500 miles in their owner's manual we would urge our customers to err on the side of caution and have your car oil changed on the lower side of that range to account for our harsh driving conditions.
